Compilation of the Data Products
A space-for-time substitute method (Chen et al., 2017) was applied to calculate monthly (or daily) residential fuel consumption and, consequently, monthly emissions of individual pollutant emissions. The intra-annual variations associated with agricultural waste burning, deforestation, and wildfires were obtained directly from the Global Fire Emissions Database (GFED) (van der Werf et al., 2010). Sub-national disaggregation of pollutant emissions was used to generate 0.1 by 0.1 degree spatial resolution (Wang et al., 2013). The rural residential energy consumption data for China were updated based on a nationwide survey and a nationwide fuel weighing campaign (Tao et al., in preparation) conducted in 2012. The results are different from the IEA and FAO data, which overlook the rapid fuel mix transition in rural China.
